LITS Services

Learning & Information Technology Services (LITS) at National Louis University provides strategic technology solutions throughout the NLU community, by following the best practices set forth by the LITS leadership team and the University Technology Council (UTC).

LITS offers a full suite of technology services in the following areas:

NLU provides anti-virus software to ensure all NLU assets remain healthy, and to prevent malicious content from affecting our devices and network. Our anti-virus software routinely scans provided NLU devices for any potential threats on your system. If our services detect malicious software or any potential risks, we receive an alert, and one of our techs will reach out to investigate. If you have any questions regarding security policies, please reach out to the Helpdesk.

The Banner information system houses university records including academic history, admissions, alumni, finance, financial aid, human resources, recruiting, registration, scheduling and student accounts. One of the most important concepts to remember about Banner is that it represents a single, relational database of all university information about the people, the academics and the finances of the university. This unified database provides great potential for more effective student services, more efficient administrative operations and better informed planning and decision making.

NLU provides access to public computer labs in all of our main campuses. This allows our students and employees to work in a public lab that includes different accesses to resources that they may not have at home such as printing and strong internet access. See more information about our computer labs here.

The NLU Helpdesk is our main-hub for any technology based issues. Any tech related issue whether it be software, hardware, network, and or audio visual equipment based can be directed through the helpdesk. We aim to resolve every case we receive whether it is through our email, telephone calls, or through Live Support. To find the NLU Helpdesk contact page, click HERE.

NLU provides the entire community across all campuses access to our wi-fi network so that you can stay connected to the web for your use. Each campus will have 2 have networks you can connect too. Any member of the NLU community can use the NLU-Secure network, so long as you have a valid NLU Portal login information. If you are a guest on any of the campuses and need to connect to our network, you can use the NLU-Wireless network and connect to internet there. If you are having issues connecting to the network and need assistance, please reach out the helpdesk. Our contact information can be found HERE.

D2L is our online course module used to house all information to your courses. You can use D2L to submit your assignments, answer discussion posts, obtain important documents and class readings, and more. Instructors will also have the ability to edit the course layout, change submission restrictions, and other useful tools to help facilitate your class. If you are having any issues in regards to D2L, you can reach out the our Learning and Design team (LXD) and you can find their contact information here.

Our remote services allows the NLU Community to access sensitive data and resources from outside-campus networks. Using Cisco Endpoint as our VPN, you can use it to access items such as your shared drives, software, and more. If you are on any of the NLU campuses, you will not need to connect to the VPN. If you notice you are having issues connecting to the VPN, please reach out to the helpdesk. Their contact information can be found HERE.

Our web team handles the day-to-day maintenance of our NLU website. Using the T4 engine, the web team support the maintenance of all NLU websites, ensuring easy accessibility for our community at large. Staff members will be given access to manage web pages relating to their role at NLU, and our team can assist supporting your webpages. We provide a variety of T4 support from account lockouts, page creations, publishing errors, and many more other T4 issues. The web team also handles creation & maintenance of custom code and web applications.

NLU offers faculty & staff the option to request additional equipment such as monitors, computer docks, keyboards and computer mice, and more. To request additional equipment, you must fill the NLU User Equipment Request form. Once filled out, one of the LITS technicians will reach out to schedule an appointment and get your equipment installed. If you would like special equipment, such as wireless mouse or keyboard, you will need your department's approval and have them fill out request on your behalf.

NLU faculty and staff members have the option to request additional onsite equipment for classes, events, meetings and more. Equipment requests or space reservations are required to be provided 24 hours in advance to the intended date of the event. To book your onsite equipment, please contact James Fannin, facilities manager.

NLU accounts are created when new students, staff, or faculty are verified. NLU staff also have the option to generate student worker accounts, which need to be requested through the LITS Department. To request an account to be created, you are required to fill out the Student Worker Access Request Form. After you have filled out the form, email it to the helpdesk at helpdesk@nl.edu.

National Louis University is committed to building an inclusive university community that welcomes, values, respects and accommodates students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
