Racial Oppression and the On-Going Movement for Black Liberation

In this presentation by Dr. Kamau Rashid, Associate Professor, National College of Education, he explores the history of racism as a system of oppression and the various ways people of African descent have responded to that system. This is a part of NCE's ongoing series exploring contemporary issues facing educators and teacher preparation.

Kamau Rashid is an Associate Professor in the School of Teacher Preparation with NLU's National College of Education. Much of Dr. Rashid's research is related to exploring African and African diasporan social critique and activism. Active in professional and community organizations that are concerned with education and cultural enrichment, Dr. Rashid is the Education Chair for the Midwest Region of the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations, and the Education Committee Chair of the Kemetic Institute of Chicago. Dr. Rashid holds a Ph.D. in Sociology of Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an M.A. in Inner-City Studies from Northeastern Illinois University, and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
